Going Crazy

"Steve, I'm worried I'm going crazy," David said as he stopped in his friends room.

Steve looked up from the report he was typing; green eyes staring thoughtfully at his commander through a pair of silver frames glasses, his slightly shaggy blond hair falling across his brow.

Steve slowly closed his laptop and turned his full attention to his friend. "What makes you say that?" he asked as he gestured at the bed, inviting David to sit down.

"I don't know. I suppose a lot of little things that have been happening lately. Like during the last skirmish, I felt hands on my head pull me out of the way of a bullet, but no one was around. I felt a hand on my arm, making me pause just as a car came careening around the corner. And just now, I was thinking on the past, and I felt someone smack me on the back of the head," David said.

Steve slowly removed his glasses and examined them. David recognized this gesture. Steve was deep in thought.

Steve eventually replaced his glasses on his nose and looked at David, "perhaps someone is trying to get your attention."

"Oh Steve, not you too. Don't tell me you believe in all that spirit stuff," David said as he rolled his eyes.

Steve shrugged, "it's just a suggestion."

David sighed in exasperation, but jerked forward when he felt a solid whack to his head. David reached up and massaged the spot and looked around.

"Steve, do you see anyone in here besides the two of us?"

"No sir."

"But..."

"Maybe you just need to be open to the idea of something you can't explain, and then an answer will find you sir."

"Open to the idea. I guess I could give it a try if it will restore my sanity."
