"You know Alec, we always had such a great time together. I wish it could have gone on forever," Joe leaned over the edge of his brothers bed, holding his hand. "I'm not sure what I'll do without you Superman. I guess now is the time to find out. I don't know if you are still here, if you can here or understand what I am saying to you; but I don't want you chained to a body that would be dead without these machines. I guess it's time to let you go. Time to stand on my own two feet. Will you be with me Alec? Will you look after me in whatever form you are in now?" Joe ignored the people who were coming in and out of the room.
Joe stood up eventually, he had said all he needed to, given his last goodbye. He could feel Jen somewhere in the room, but ignored her as well. Joe turned one last time at the door, taking in his brother, remembering him as he really was, not swathed in medical equipment, but the free, laughing, smiling youth. The boy-man with the bright green eyes, and dark hair. The one riding down the street on his motorcycle, the one doing magic tricks, the one teaching Joe to fight.
"I love you Alec."
